UNDERSTANDING STAINS AND TEETH WHITENING
What causes teeth stains and discolouring?
There are many reasons for discolored teeth. Aging and the on-going consumption of coffee, tea, cola, red wine, tobacco products, curries etc., can lead to the staining of the teeth.
Why are some stains worse?
There are two types of tooth stains: “extrinsic”, those stains that are on the surface of the tooth, and “intrinsic”, stains that are on the inside of the tooth and show through the enamel as discoloration.
While whitening toothpastes and chewing gums may be effective for removing extrinsic stains, they are not designed to work inside the tooth to remove the darker, more challenging intrinsic stains.
A special formulating gel is the most effective material for removing the internal stains. When applied to the teeth, the gel breaks down into water and radical hydroxyl ions. As these ions work their way through the dentinal tubules and into the tooth, they attach themselves to stain particles and effectively break the stains apart. With the stains removed, the teeth appear whiter and brighter.
How does teeth whitening chair treatment work?
The procedure is straight forward. The procedure is safe and easy. This self-administered system has been perfected by a dental chemist, who was one of the scientific partners that developed the original Zoom procedure over a decade ago.
A trained whitening technician prepares the treatment and instructs you to insert the mouth tray for treatment. Your upper teeth and lower teeth are whitened at the same time. A blue LED light is used to accelerate the whitening process and to deliver fast and highly effective results. In combination with the unique gel application, the two 10 minute back to back treatments give the optimum results.
How safe is it?
Teeth whitening is one of the most requested cosmetic proceedures in dentistry today, practiced on millions of people.. Numerous studies have shown that teeth whitening involving proven practices using hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide are both safe and effective.
What about crowns and fillings?
Although bleaching will not cause adverse effects on crowns or fillings, it also does not whiten these dental products.
THE QUIK SMILES METHOD
What results can I expect from a Quik Smiles treatment?
Our treatments result in consistent improvement in producing whiter teeth – three to eight shades whiter. Individual results will vary depending on your habits and your unique dental makeup.
How long will my teeth stay white?
Initial results will last the average person up to one year. Over time, and for the very same reasons that caused the teeth to discolor in the first place, you will notice your teeth darkening again. When this happens, you can simply repeat the Quik Smiles treatment and the teeth will be restored back to their brilliant white color.
How can I maintain my smile?
A person can also maintain their white smile by using our Quik Smiles Whitening Pen immediately after the initial treatment and on an as needed basis. Those who smoke cigarettes or drink heavy quantities of dark, acidic liquids like; coffee, tea, red wine, colas, etc., will have to touch up their teeth more often than people who do not.
